While all vacuum regulators available in the market leave room for patient safety risks in acute care environments, Ohio Medical’s solutions, driven by proprietary technology, close those gaps. “Our technology error-proofs the system to avoid practitioners from potentially over-suctioning their patients by mistake,” says Wieczorek. He explains, “Ohio Medical’s controller consists of fail-safe mechanisms built-in which enables the user to push the knob of the device and set the pressure while automatically occluding the line. Essentially, Ohio Medical has successfully made possible the process of one-hand operation. No more traditional two-hand orchestration where the users are required to occlude the line with one hand and set the pressure on the vacuum regulator with the other. Additionally, Ohio Medical’s vacuum controller assures that the vacuum pressure is set at the proper level the nurse or the respiratory therapists are looking for.”

Regarding the respiratory aspects, a broken or missing flowmeter can lead to either leakage of gas or insufficient gas volume in the breathing circuit, causing patient distress.

That said, the traditional flowmeters continue to perform poorly as they can be easily pulled out of the wall. Aware of these predicaments, Ohio Medical developed the Patented Tube Style Integrated Flowmeter which combines a tube style flowmeter and a medical gas outlet into one simple, compact unit. The gas outlet offers an extra connection which provides the flexibility to attach another flowmeter, hose or ventilator. Its flowmeter is robust and requires the removal of the whole wall assembly while unplugging.

Also included in Ohio Medical’s robust product offering are blenders and a line of portable suction regulators that have been well adopted by the company’s clients. An ongoing issue with many portable medical devices is that the plug is proprietary. The whole unit becomes unusable when the power plug of the device is lost. “We built our power cord into the unit,so you cannot take the power cord off. As long as you have the portable unit with you, the power cord will remain connected,” informs Wieczorek.
